Mental Health for Aging Adults
As a person grows older, life can bring on greater challenges. Some of these challenges might include grief and loss, disabilities, medical problems, cognitive decline, social environments, and limited support systems. This usually causes an increase in stress, anxiety, and depression. That is why I’m here to provide the mental health counseling for aging adults needed to help them work through their challenges. I will assist seniors with developing positive coping skills to help alleviate painful thoughts and emotions, find enjoyment, and ultimately enhance their quality of life. At times, it might be difficult for an aging adult to leave their home to receive service. I recognize this challenge, and would be willing to provide therapy wherever the client needs me.
Mental Health for Adults With Mild Dementia
Living with dementia can be very challenging. However, that is why I am here to offer my full support. I am specifically trained to work with individuals impacted by mild dementia, and can subsequently help them deal with the changes and effects of dementia on family, friends, and caregivers. I am also able to counsel clients and family members on available resources in the community.
My Methods
Overall, I employ a number of therapeutic methods to ensure that each client is thoroughly equipped with the tools and strategies they need to overcome the obstacles they are facing. Consequently, I don’t just use one method, nor even the same set of methods for any two clients. I cater each counseling session, and the methods involved, towards the individual, their specific needs, and what is most ideal for their situation.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavioral therapy

What to Expect
Choosing to begin counseling is one of the best things you can do for yourself, as you are beginning your journey towards empowerment and healing!
Our first session will simply involve me getting to know you better; your history, medical history, medications, etc, and understanding what specifically brings you into therapy. The goal of this is for me to understand as much as possible about your situation, so I can then compose the most optimal treatment plan to infuse stability, strength, and empowerment into your future. During this session, I will establish a strong foundation of trust, help you understand that we will work through things together, and reassure you that nothing you are facing is too daunting for me to handle. I will also encourage you to ask any questions you may have about the work we will do together in therapy.
After the first session, the following sessions will involve a variety of activities and exercises, such as identifying and correcting negative thought patterns; establishing effective coping mechanisms; identifying practical plans of action to overcome challenges; or simply talking through an obstacle at hand to gain a deeper understanding. It is important to note that each client does have a responsibility outside of counseling to still practice what is learned during the sessions in everyday life. If the client fails to do so, the counseling sessions will not be as effective as they could be.
